Laura Alcazar Prada was born in Bogota, Colombia in February of 1998. She studies Human Biology and Studio Art at the University of Toronto, and projects to graduate the spring of 2020. Of the many mediums she has explored, due to her university’s variety of mediums they offer for students; she primarily uses 2-D mediums like drawing, painting and photographs for her art. However, she never shies away from other skills that her studies have thought her.
Alcazar Prada was going to be featured in the AA 3rd floor painting class showing (2018). The Annual juried Student Art exhibition (2019). Art and Activism showing “Write your stereotype here” (2019). The Annual Cedar Ridge Exhibition at the Doris McCarthy Gallery (Winter, 2020), however due to Covid-19 the exhibition never took place. Student Exhibition (Fall, 2020), The CoVelective end of the year Exhibition (2020). Telepathy: on Repeat, exhibition at the Gallery 1265 (Nov 30th, 2020 to Feb 25th, 2021).
She is proud of being part of solidARiTy exhibition, showcasing to artwork that depict personal concepts in her life.
Laura Alcazar Prada loves experimenting with materials, and art forms like sawing, dancing, and her other passion of science. She one day hope to be able to use her creativity within the scientific world.

Alter ego, a second I

Size: 11 in. x 14 in.
Medium: Acrylic.
“Alter ego, a second I” is a series of four paintings of my family and their alter egos. The paintings are made from acrylic with an expressionist technique, in addition to a glitch and blur effect. My research enhanced my understanding of alter egos, which allowed me to then focus on my family’s alter egos. I took inspiration from other artists that have played around this theme, as well as the physiological theory of Freud. I asked my family about who they would be in another life that does not reflect who they are currently. I am depicting my family from my point of view; it is a representation on how I envision their alter ego. Working on this collection allowed me to understand my family on a deeper level and understand the complexity of alter egos.

Us, for now

“Us, for now” is a series of seven single graphics, representing specific events through comic style in watercolour and needle point ink. It's a representation of my two lives, which are across continents, one in Toronto and the other in Qatar. It talks about the current situation and how it is the new normal, for now. The seven graphics I decided to depict represent the seven months that I am away from my life in Toronto, and my significant other. Even though each graphic is specific to my relationship, I hope other people relate on what is like to virtually continue building memories, specially within the current situation.
