Monotony
112 4’’ x 4’’ panels
Acrylic on paper
Monotony is a time-based painting highlighting the monotony of one’s life born out of the COVID-19 pandemic. As I contemplate on the question: “Why does one desperately need a routine to keep their day ‘structured’ and ‘occupied’, while at the same time find the monotonous routine repetitive and boring?” The piece consists of 112 4” x 4” square paintings done over a period of 14 working days for 8 hours a day, 1 square painting per hour representing the repetitive 9-5 worklife. The square panels are colour coded with the activities that I do as part of my “work”. All the panels contribute to a larger image of my fingerprint symbolizing one’s identity formed by the monotonous routine.
